If you've not been to the annual Quilt Week activities in downtown Paducah, you may only have seen the outside of the Dome Pavilion. But there are other uses for it, and the city is offering event planners or curious citizens a chance to see inside on Saturday, July 23.

"Roam the Dome" is an open house from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm - an opportunity for anyone to see the open-air 40,000 square-foot facility.

Paducah-McCracken County Convention Center Director of Operations Chuck Tate says the dome has been utilized already for football and skating practices, and it's available for a variety of uses besides conventions.

"It's a community facility. We want the community to take advantage of it - practice football, band, soccer, tennis - a lot of possibilities," Tate said.

Anyone interested in renting the facility can talk to PMCCC Sales Director Michelle Campbell in her office, or at the event.

"Obviously, there's a cost to running the facility. We want to recoup that cost as best we can, but we also want people to use the facility. We want them in there and we want the public to see activity," Tate said. "A very, very, very small amount of people in the community have actually been in there and seen it, and it's empty so it's a perfect time for people to come look around, and we want their ideas. We are open to what they think or would like to see," Tate said.

The pavilion is at 711 North 6th Street in Paducah. For more information, call 270-408-1346.
