PADUCAH, KY - At a ceremony held Tuesday, August 7 at City Hall, Mayor Bill Paxton presented the Mayor’s Award of Merit to Russ Cochran.
The award is the highest form of recognition issued by the mayor’s office in Paducah. Paducah native Russ Cochran is a professional golfer on the Champions Tour who has played on the PGA Tour and the Nationwide Tour.
Mayor Paxton says, “We’ve all been proud when Russ is walking down that 18th fairway and they say, ‘There’s Russ Cochran, from Paducah, Kentucky’. That means a lot.”
Mayor Paxton says Cochran has been a great supporter of Paxton Park Golf Course and the entire Paducah community. Cochran splits his time between his home in Paducah and his home in Jupiter, Florida.
Mayor Paxton adds, “This award is an opportunity for us to say thank you for supporting Paducah-McCracken County. Please keep it up because we need you. It’s so good for Paducah.”
Several of Cochran’s friends and family members attended the ceremony. Cochran says, “We are a tour family just by my trade. We go all over the place, but we know where we belong. We know the people we like, and we are certainly in love with the city of Paducah.”
Cochran turned pro in 1979 and is known for his left-handed swing. Cochran says he is known by two nicknames: “Lefty” and “Paducah”.
