Local residents are being warned about a recent phone scam involving someone who is impersonating a sheriff's deputy.

The McCracken County Sheriff’s Department says it heard from several people Monday morning who got calls from a man claiming to be a "Detective Carver" at the department. When deputies called the number back (270-557-6518), a man reportedly answered “McCracken County Sheriff’s Office”. When confronted, he hung up on deputies.

Deputies say the department does not call people and ask for personal information or money, and that citizens should never give out this information over the phone.
