The New Hamphire Union Leader reports that police in Pelham, New Hamphire learned of a Florida warrant for the arrest of 41-year-old Joseph Giroux on January 18, and they knew him from prior police contact. Giroux was also suspected of a theft in Pelham. Detectives knew from interviews with several people that Giroux had only been in New Hampshire for a short time, but had been accused of bilking a homeowner in Northwood out of services for which he was paid. He did not do the work but allegedly cashed the check, and was identified from bank security footage.
After the victim in Northwood provided a cell phone number, police began texting Giroux while posing as a 40-year-old woman. Between January 23 and February 11, police say Giroux shared personal information and sent several selfies, which enabled police to get a warrant to track the phone's location.
The New Hampshire Union Leader reports Giroux's phone went silent for several days, but then was tracked to Punta Gorda, Florida on February 9. After US Marshals and local police were not able to catch Giroux, his phone was silent for several more days.
On Monday, the phone was tracked to Paducah and local authorities were notified by Pelham police. After performing surveillance, Paducah Police were able to arrest Giroux on Tuesday without incident. He's being held at McCracken County Detention Center pending extradition.
