Semi Strikes I-24 Overpass Monday

MCCRACKEN CO, KY - Traffic on I-24 was restricted for several hours Monday evening after a semi trailer malfunctioned, causing it to hit a bridge overpass in McCracken County.

At around 11:07 p.m. Monday, the McCracken County Sheriff’s Department received a report of a single vehicle accident on I-24 involving a semi striking a bridge overpass.

The investigation revealed that 51-year-old Lawrence A McBride III of Marion KY was traveling eastbound on I-24 near the 16 mile-marker, when the hydraulic lift on the dump trailer he was pulling malfunctioned and caused the trailer to raise while the vehicle was in motion. The top of the trailer struck the bridge at the Rosebower Church Road overpass, causing minor damage to the overpass and the trailer.
No injuries were reported, and the contents of the trailer were not spilled. One lane of eastbound traffic was closed for approximately 5 hours while crews attempted to repair the damaged trailer.
Kentucky Department of Transportation officials inspected the bridge and determined that it had not sustained any structural damage, and was safe for vehicle traffic.
