By WestKYStar Staff
PADUCAH, KY - A shooting incident in Indian Oaks Mobile Home Park led to the arrest of a Paducah man.

On Monday evening, June 18, around 9:30, McCracken County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to 4131 Clarks River Road (the Indian Oaks Mobile Home Park) on a report of a shooting. Two sheriff’s deputies, who were already at the mobile home park on an unrelated call, arrived at the location of the shooting victim within minutes.

The deputies found 22 year old Codi M. Knight who appeared to have been shot in the arm. Witnesses reported to deputies that the shooter had run from the scene to another mobile home located at Lot# 132. Deputies attempted for almost an hour to get the suspect to surrender. The suspect, 34 year old Michael Dalton,  came out once refusing deputies commands and, appearing to be intoxicated, ran back inside. A few minutes later, he emerged again from the mobile home. He again refused deputies commands. A 'flash bang' distraction device was used, as well as a Taser to take the suspect into custody.

A search warrant was obtained for Lot# 132 and was served at about 2:30am. During that search, the pistol that was believed to have been used in the shooting was recovered. The semi-automatic pistol seized was a .25 caliber. Further investigation by sheriff’s detectives revealed that the shooting actually occurred on the banks of the Clarks River under the railroad bridge just east of the mobile home park. An argument broke out between Knight and Dalton. Dalton pulled out the semi-automatic pistol and began shooting at Knight's feet.

Witnesses stated that the two were in an argument over a female, and both had been drinking. Some witnesses stated that Dalton was shooting at his feet trying to make him dance. Medical staff were unable to determine if the wound to Knights arm was from a bullet, or something that may have ricocheted from the ground by the bullets because more than 15 rounds had been fired. Detectives located the area on the Clarks River were the shooting took place and recovered some evidence including spent shell casings.

Knight was treated and released from Western Baptist Hospital. Michael L. Dalton was arrested and charged with Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree and Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon. He was lodged at the McCracken County Regional Jail. The Paducah Police Department also assisted at the scene.
