Single Vehicle Crash Injures 3 in McCracken County

A single vehicle crash in McCracken County early Saturday morning sent three people to the hospital.

According to the McCracken County Sheriff's Department, the crash happened just before 3:30 am on Saturday at the intersection of Blandville Road and North Gum Springs Road. The vehicle was found by deputies overturned in a creek with three people out of the vehicle, and a fourth still inside. 

Deputies say the fourth passenger was able to free herself and climb from the vehicle with help from emergency responders. 

Deputies say 21-year-old Melody Vandriver, of Ledbetter, was driving on Blandville Road when she tried to turn around at the intersection of North Gum Springs, thinking that she was going the wrong way. As Vandriver was backing up, she backed off the roadway at the end of a culvert and overturned into a creek. 

23-year-old Derek Wissinger, of Cairo Illinois, a passenger in the back seat attempted to jump from the vehicle to safety as the vehicle was overturning and was struck by the vehicle causing serious injuries. He was taken to a local hospital, with his current condition being unknown.

21-year-old Tanner McElmurry, of Benton, and another passenger received minor injuries and was taken to a Paducah area hospital for observation. 21-year-old Erin Sullivan, of Paducah, suffered serious injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Her current condition is unknown.
