If you visit Paducah parks or the Greenway Trail, you will probably see new signs reminding everyone to practice social distancing.

In a Facebook video Friday evening, Mayor Brandi Harless said, "Our goal is to keep that Greenway Trial and those walking paths open because we know how crucial it's going to be over the next several weeks that you all have a chance to get out and be healthy, get some sunshine, get some exercise. So, those signs are going up, but hopefully they will remind all of us that we need to be practicing social distancing when we are not with immediate members of our household."

Harless said she has gone walking with friends but they have maintained a distance of six feet. However, when she's with her husband, they are able to walk side-by-side.

Picnic tables are also missing from pavilions in the park in an effort to discourage gatherings of any kind.

The city is looking at re-scheduling the opening dates for Parks and Recreation programs such as summer camps, recreational sports leagues, or the swimming pool at Noble Park. Harless said they hope to have an announcement by the end of April.

In the meantime, the city has started virtual recreation opportunities to keep people engaged, and that information can be found on the Paducah Parks Department Facebook page.

Over the past week, the city has been doing trial runs trying to figure out how to safely help food pantries and food banks deliver meals to those in need. Harless said Community Kitchen has also seen a significant increase in demand, too.

"We're trying really hard to figure out what services people are needing, there's some housing concerns, and we're working with the United Way to help to facilitate some responses to those issues," Harless said.
