Immediate past President Darrell Matheny exchanged a handshake and passed the gavel to 2019 President Steve Atherton during the ceremony. Atherton, during closing remarks, reminded everyone in attendance that being a member of the Kiwanis is so important to the children of our community. “Some of the busiest people make great Kiwanians,” Atherton stated. Referencing the fact that many people don't think they can dedicate enough time to be a member, “If every member just puts in a little time, that makes a huge impact on our community.”
During the banquet new two-year board members were added for 2019-2020. Mike Miller and Mark Ryan were installed to join current Board members Harry Matheny and Joe Cicardo. Installation of officers was conducted by Lieutenant Governor Jeff Walker.
Current officers for 2018-2019 include President Steve Atherton, President Elect Phillip Bagwell, Treasurer Suzie Atherton and Secretary Denice Cicardo.
Kiwanis Club of South Paducah members are involved in many fundraisers for the community including their annual McCracken County Fair. Members also operate a funnel cake trailer during the BBQ on the River Festival, and volunteer in other various areas of need. Thousands of dollars are raised yearly through various fundraisers and most of the money stays in McCracken County and western Kentucky.
Kiwanis members are volunteers in the community dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time.
