Allison Stieg was selected to be the next principal of Paducah Tilghman High School by the PTHS School-Based Decision Making Council Monday in a unanimous vote.

The selection of Stieg by the SBDM was the culmination of a three month search process that was begun after current principal Art Davis announced his retirement.

Stieg has been an educator for 27 years. Stieg received her B.S. in Mathematics, an M.A. in Education, and a Rank 1 Certification in Administration from Murray State University.

She was a teacher and coach at Ballard Memorial High School and Heath High School prior to coming to Paducah Tilghman High School in 2002.

Stieg taught mathematics and was the varsity girls basketball coach at PTHS from 2002 – 2008. During her coaching tenure, she led the 2005 team to the state final four and was named Region 1 All Purchase Coach of the Year and KABC Coach of the Year. Stieg was named Dean of Students in 2008, where she has served for 11 years.

"Mrs. Stieg has almost two decades of experience as a teacher, head coach, and assistant principal at Paducah Tilghman," said Superintendent Donald Shively. "I have personally experienced Mrs. Stieg's passion for our students' success throughout all her roles at Tilghman. Mrs. Stieg is focused on ensuring our tradition of excellence continues."

"I cannot wait to go to work for you all," Mrs. Stieg said in her remarks to the faculty who were present for the announcement. "I'll be working hard this summer to get us ready to go next year. I promise I will give all I've got for you and our students."

Mrs. Stieg said that good working relationships with students will be the priority in her work as principal.

"A good relationship with students is the most important thing," Stieg said. "That is what I talk with teachers and parents about. The number one thing that you can do to have a positive experience with a student is to build a good working relationship with that student and that's something I always try to do. I'm looking forward to being out of my office and in the classroom seeing students in their learning environment and seeing how the teachers interact and offer help as needed. I look forward to being a true instructional leader."
