Paducah Power is working hard again this year to help area charities that help distribute food to those in need.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, you can drop off nonperishable food items at the "Stuff the Truck" event. A semi trailer provided by Wagner Moving and Storage will be on the parking lot at Baptist Health Paducah's Imaging Center on Tuesday and Lourdes Medical Pavilion on Wednesday. Cash donations are also accepted.

"Stuff the Truck" is conducted along with the utility's annual "Christmas in the Park" event, which runs through December 31st in Noble Park. Both events benefit the Family Service Society, Paducah Cooperative Ministry, the Salvation Army.

Another campaign is under way involving local school students. The School Challenge involves city and county students who bring canned goods to school. Teachers and staff members typically create a display of the items in their lobby, and the school that collects the most will win $1,000. As a whole, the schools generated 39,445 pounds of canned goods for Christmas in the Park last year, the most the schools have ever collected.

While all nonperishable food items are welcome, staples like flour, sugar, rice and pasta and “meals in a can” such as soup, canned meats and stews are especially needed, including soup, canned meats and stews, canned and dried pasta, crackers, flour, sugar, peanut butter, jelly, canned fruits and vegetables, baby food, cereal, juices, baking mixes and frosting, Jell-O and pudding mixes.
