A Tennessee man faces arson charges, after a fire Thursday evening that damaged a Paducah motel.

Paducah Police Officers were called shortly before midnight Thursday to a disturbance at the Thrifty Inn on Hinkleville Road. When they arrived, they found smoke and flames coming from a room. The Paducah Fire Department was notified and the motel was evacuated.

Police said 23-year-old Michael J. Rhodes, who had rented the room where the fire started, was found behind the motel. He had reportedly been drinking, and admitted during an interview to intentionally starting the fire in a trash can in the room.

Two Paducah police officers were treated for smoke inhalation. Rhodes was booked into McCracken County Regional Jail on a charge of first-degree arson.
