The Paducah Police Department says it collected about 270 pounds of pills Saturday during the department's 11th Drug "Take-Back" event.

The event was organized by Det. Sgt. Ryan Conn. Members of the public had the opportunity to get rid of potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs at Kentucky Oaks Mall.

The department says a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, and from home medicine cabinets.

There is a drug drop box located in the lobby of police department headquarters, 1400 Broadway, that is available anytime during regular business hours, Monday through Friday for drug disposal.
