MCCRACKEN COUNTY - A Texas semi driver was hurt Thursday morning in a crash on I-24.

The McCracken County Sheriff's Office says Deputies responded shortly before 1 a.m. to a crash involving a semi near the 17 mile marker.

The investigation revealed 67-year-old Ricardo Contreras of Donna Texas was traveling Eastbound when he fell asleep and collided with the rear of another semi driven by 39-year-old Joshua Anderson of McDonough Georgia. Contreras was taken to Lourdes hospital and later flown to an out of state hospital for treatment.

Contreras was hauling barrels of herbicide, which were scattered along the roadside after the crash. The environmental protection agency responded and is making arrangements for the proper clean up of the damaged barrels. Deputies said there is no danger to the public.
