Detectives began their investigation when they learned that 32-year-old Valerie Hooper of Paducah was selling prescriptions. They arranged a purchase from her on Tuesday afternoon, and she sold Oxycontin pills to a detective in front of two children who were in her care. Hooper was immediately arrested because she had placed the children in such a dangerous environment. The children were released into the care of a relative.
More information gathered during this bust led detectives to arrange the sale of some Oxycontin pills to 22-year-old Jenny Reed of Calvert City on Wednesday morning. When she was arrested, she told deputies that she intended to give the drugs to her boyfriend, 23-year-old Michael Landry of Calvert City. He was arrested later that day.
Hooper is charged with trafficking a controlled substance 1st degree - over 10 doses, and possession of a controlled substance 1st degree. Reed is charged with possession of a controlled substance 1st degree, and Landry is charged with conspiracy to possession of a controlled substance 1st degree. They were all lodged in McCracken County Jail.
