A new record high temperature has been set for Thursday, September 20, breaking a mark that was over 60 years old.

At 2 pm, the National Weather Service in Paducah says the temperature reached 97 degrees, and hovered there for at least a couple of hours. The previous record high for September 20 was 95 degrees in 1955.

Even though the humidity was at 37 percent at 4pm, heat indices were near 100 degrees during the afternoon.

Wednesday's high temperature reached 93 degrees, but couldn't beat the record set on September 19, 1954, of 97 degrees.

If you're looking for seasonable temperatures, look no further than this weekend. After rain and possible storms move in Friday, high temperatures on Saturday and Sunday will be in the low to mid 70s. A chance of rain or thunderstorms persists until Wednesday.
