Leaders at Paducah businesses, churches and schools are invited to attend a training event next month on how to react to an act of violence in public locations.

The Police Foundation of Paducah-McCracken County, in partnership with the Paducah Police Department, is hosting the event December 12-13 at the Clemens Fine Arts Center of WKCTC.  The guest speaker for the event is nationally recognized expert Kenneth D. Hughes.

Topics included in the training sessions include:

+ Ten-minute exercise and role-play scenario
+ A quick overview of the modern era of school shootings
+ Response and survival during a mass shooting
+ Can mass shootings be prevented?
+ The 2nd Amendment - The right to bear arms and community safety
+ Public safety response
+ Points to ponder

Two sessions will be held.

The first session will be from 1 - 5 pm on Tuesday, Dec. 12, and is recommended for staff and security personnel at schools and churches.
The second Session will be from  9 am - 1 pm on Wednesday, Dec. 13, and is recommended for local businesses.
