Tree Donation Beautifies Paducah Middle Campus
By West Kentucky Star Staff
PADUCAH, KY -

Representatives of Gerdau Steel, Tennessee Valley Authority and the Paducah Civic Beautification Board gathered at Paducah Middle School on Tuesday to present a $3,500 donation for the purchase of 42 trees for the new Paducah Middle School parking lot on Lone Oak Road.

Gerdau donated the trees and partnered with Lourdes Hospital, Computer Services Inc., Motion Industries and TVA to make a donation to help cover the cost of planting the trees.

Wayne Armbruster, manager of engineering for Gerdau Steel, is a member of the Paducah Civic Beautification Board and also owns a small tree farm. "I often look for places that would benefit from trees," said Armbruster  "Therefore, when the construction on the new PMS school was nearly complete, I noticed the landscaping was about to happen and thought, 'What a great place for my trees.' "

After approaching Gerdau and Paducah Public Schools with the idea, Armbruster worked with the school architects to formulate the layout and costs and asked community businesses for donations. "PMS is a wonderful school and Gerdau is glad to be a part of its success," said Armbruster.

"We appreciate community partners like TVA, Gerdau, Lourdes, CSI, Motion Industries and the Civic Beautification Board," said Paducah Middle principal Stacey Overlin. "Over the years, as these trees grow and mature they will add a natural beauty to our campus that will last for generations to come."
