A collision involving a pickup truck and an ambulance Friday afternoon sent four people to the hospital.

According to the Paducah Police Department, the accident happened at the intersection of Jack Paxton Drive and Alben Barkley Drive (U.S. Highway 62). Police say 29-year-old Thomas Banks of Anna was driving the Pope County Ambulance, as a cardiac patient was being taken to a local hospital.

Banks said he was eastbound on Alben Barkley Drive and went through the intersection with the ambulance's lights and siren activated. He told police he thought all other traffic had stopped, but the ambulance was hit in the side by a pickup truck driven by 38-year-old Sabrina Mortz of Simpson, Illinois.

The collision rolled the ambulance onto its side.

All four people in the ambulance were taken to Baptist Health Paducah for treatment of minor injuries. Mortz declined treatment at the scene.
