By West Kentucky Star Staff
MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY - Seven students from Heath Elementary School were treated and released at local hospitals after a car and a McCracken County School District bus crashed. The accident took place around 7:30 am at the intersection of U.S. Highway 62 and KY 286.

McCracken Co. Sheriff's Department responded along with other first responders. The department's report says 22-year-old Joshua White of LaCenter was eastbound in a 1967 Ford Mustang when his vehicle hydroplaned, and the front end of the car went into the westbound lane, hitting the front driver's side of the bus. The bus came to a stop in the ditch along the westbound shoulder.

Sgt. Jared Rivera of the Sheriff's Department said the vehicle's speeds were only between 30 and 40 mph, which prevented everyone from having more serious injuries.

Seven of the nine students were taken to local hospitals, but two were released to their parents at the scene. White was also taken to the hospital, along with the bus driver, 31-year-old Mary Emerson of McCracken County.

Police say nothing in their investigation indicated that any charges would be filed.

U.S. 62 was closed to traffic in both directions for nearly two hours on Wednesday morning.
