The American Heart Association’s Heart Walk of Western Kentucky is on track to raise a record $70,000 for cardiovascular research and preventative education efforts.

The annual walk will be held this Saturday, Sept. 6 at Noble Park in Paducah. Registration begins at 8:30 am and the walk starts at 9:30 am.

For information on participating in the Heart Walk of Western Kentucky, call the American Heart Association at 270-205-0004 or visit www.heart.org/westernkywalk

More than 500 participants are already expected at the non-competitive, 1- to 3-mile walk includes teams of employees from local companies, along with friends, family members and survivors of all ages. Attendees will have the opportunity to remember survivors and loved ones lost to heart disease and stroke through a special memorial wall. The event will also include a kid’s zone, games, music and heart-healthy snacks.

“The Heart Walk is not your typical walking event,” said Rebecca Dunn, Heart Walk Director for the American Heart Association. “It is a way for us to give back to our community by teaching healthy lifestyle practices to help lower the risk of heart disease and stroke.”

The Heart Walk of Western Kentucky is a component of the My Heart. My Life. behavior platform, the American Heart Association’s groundbreaking national movement that calls on all Americans to create and embrace an overall healthier lifestyle in order to improve cardiovascular health. This new platform is an important component of the American Heart Association’s sweeping national goal: to improve the cardiovascular health of all Americans by 20 percent and to reduce deaths from cardiovascular disease and stroke by 20 percent by the year 2020. Nearly 70 percent of Americans do not engage in regular physical activity. This inactivity doubles the risk of heart disease –which is largely preventable through a healthy lifestyle.

Through events like the Heart Walk of Western Kentucky, the American Heart Association is able to provide ongoing preventative education efforts, and invest millions of dollars in cardiovascular research in Kentucky.

The My Heart. My Life. healthy behavior platform is nationally sponsored by SUBWAY. The Heart Walk of Western Kentucky is brought to you by Baptist Health Paducah, Passport Health Plan, Lourdes Hospital, Gerdau, WPSD and WKYQ.
