A Paducah man faces multiple charges after Paducah police and Probation and Parole officers went to his home this morning to serve a warrant for probation violation.

Officers found Delvon R. Shumpert hiding behind a bedroom door inside his home in the 1000 block of Elmdale Road. Officers found in his possession a plastic bag containing about one gram of marijuana.

Police obtained permission to search the home from the homeowner, and found about 133 grams of marijuana in individually wrapped bags under a bed. On a desk beside the bed, they found plastic sandwich bags and digital scales.

On top of the refrigerator, officers found a Hi-Point 45-caliber handgun that was reported stolen June 17 by Dan Overstreet of Cloverdale Road. Overstreet said the gun was stolen from his car. Shumpert told officers he had gotten the gun “from some kids.”

Shumpert was charged with probation violation, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, trafficking in marijuana, receiving stolen property (the gun), and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also charged with trafficking in a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school because his home is near St. Mary Elementary School.

He was booked into McCracken County Regional Jail.
