For the next 245 days, we'll be sharing places to go and things to do in our interesting town. This is my hometown and when I hear someone say there's nothing to do, I just don't get it. We're making a list of options and attractions and hope this helps when you're wondering what to do. If there's something or some place you want others in our community to know about, email me ro@wkyx.com and we'll try to include it during this 365-day adventure . . .

#111 How cool to learn to do machine applique at our National Quilt Museum-tonight is the second class for adult beginners.

Karen Allen is teaching this class and I'm taking it from 5:30-8:30 pm. Using pieces of fabric my new daughter-in-law chose for table runners from their recent wedding, it will be interesting to see what we come up with. I'll share the finished product in a few weeks. What an opportunity we have right here in our own town to learn all types of techniques from some of the best in the field of creative quiliting. During this 5-week class we will finish a small quilt or wall hanging. It's a holiday inspired machine applique project, "Cardinal with Holly," a design by Kathy Boudreau, Katrina Designs. Sewing machines are provided for students' use. Email Becky Glasby, Director of Education or call her at 270-442-8856. There may still be an opening...or find out what other quilting opportunities they offer.

Paducah has a few places to go to actually enjoy a hay ride and other outdoor fall activities. Here's a suggestion for today!

Wurth Farms on South Friendship Road is open today from noon until 4. It's one of the places to go for a family hayride and beautiful and fun afternoon in some pretty perfect fall weather. Today this is what to expect when you arrive at Wurth Farms:
•Hayrides 1 -4 pm
•Live Music
•Petting Zoo
•Horseback Rides
•Straw Maze
•Inflatables
•Concessions

Pumpkin Patch Tours can be scheduled in advance for groups of 20 or more. The tour begins at the Pumpkin Dispatch, with a hayride to the pumpkin patch where the children are encouraged to walk through and look at all the pumpkins and vines.  We’ll talk briefly about how we grow pumpkins on the farm and each child will be given their own pumpkin seeds to grow next year.  Then we will hop on the wagons for our return trip to the Pumpkin Dispatch.   Refreshments will be served to the children (cookies and apple cider) while in Pumpkin Dispatch.  Each child will receive a coloring book and a “munchkin pumpkin” (approximately 2-4” in diameter).

Tours run weekdays throughout October and last approximately 1 ½ hours depending on the number attending.  They will need an accurate number that will be attending (parents and teachers included), so that they will be prepared and avoid unnecessary waits for the children. Tours are welcome to bring lunches to eat while at the farm.  However, you MUST NOTIFY them at the time you schedule the tour that you would like to eat lunch so that we can reserve the picnic area for your group.  As we all know the weather isn’t always cooperative. Please be sure that the children dress appropriately, as this is an outdoor event.  Tours will not be rescheduled if there is a rain out.

To allow the children to have the most enjoyable time, Wurth Farms must be prepared for them.  So if you plan on eating lunch, or bringing more than you scheduled, please call ahead.  They will be glad to work with your group in any way, but they must know prior to your arrival if you would like to do something different. For more info or to schedule a tour, call Lisa at 270-554-1403, at your earliest convenience, as they fill up fast!
