Wreck Involving Deer Leads to DUI Charge

A Hickory man faces a DUI charge, after he hit a deer Saturday night on Old Mayfield Road.

Shortly before midnight on Saturday, McCracken County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a single vehicle crash with injuries on Old Mayfield Road. 

According to police, 43-year-old Jimmy Rockwell, of Hickory was riding a motorcycle south on Old Mayfield Rd, when he stated he struck a deer. Rockwell lost control of his motorcycle and came to rest in the ditch on the north bound side of the roadway. 

Rockwell was taken to Lourdes Hospital for treatment of unknown non-life threatening injuries. He was not wearing a helmet. Police said Rockwell was found to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident, and was charged with DUI 1st offense.
