Paducah's Yeiser Art Center has announced they are closing their gift shop and will be hosting a Y’ART Sale on August 3 and 4.

The sale will be held inside the Yeiser Art Center at 200 Broadway. It's a one-time event to help raise funds for the YAC’s operating expenses and educational programming.

YAC Director Stacey Reason said, "We've been talking about the gift shop for the better part of a year, analyzing its success and the finances, and also reconsidering its role in the mission of the Yeiser as a whole," she said.

When the gift shop originally opened, there really weren't places for local artists to sell their works, but now that has changed. Plus, space at the YAC is very limited.

Reason continued, "Since we've grown our programming so much, we're working with so many different artists and organizations and events around town, we felt like we could use that space for programming and more mission-driven activities."

Although there are lots of ideas about how to use the space, after the gift shop closes, it will initially be used for a small gallery to spotlight a specific artist each month.

As for the Y'art Sale, she said the art is priced to sell, so "it won’t cost an an arm and a leg."

The sale is from 10 am to 5 pm on Friday, August 3 and from 7 am to 2 pm on Saturday, August 4. Prices will drop dramatically on Saturday afternoon to get rid of anything still unsold.

There will also be a lemonade stand, handmade cookies and popcorn for sale at the event.
