The flooding along the Mississippi River will be Paducah's gain during the 4th of July weekend celebrations.  Those who plan to watch the City of Paducah's fireworks display along the riverfront will also have the American Queen docked at the Port as a backdrop for the celebration.

American Queen's Shore Excursions of America, Inc., says the high water levels on the Mississippi River will force the iconic river boat that was originally planned for an itinerary up the Mississippi from Memphis to St. Louis, to hang a right at Cairo and move along the Ohio River to Paducah instead.

The more than 300 passengers just wrapping up their cruise will be bussed from Paducah to St. Louis on Saturday, the 4th, and new passengers about to begin their cruise will be bussed from St. Louis to Paducah on the 5th.  This will have the American Queen docked at the Port of Paducah during the 4th of July fireworks display, a rare treat for spectators to enjoy.

This year the City of Paducah has contracted with Arthur Rozzi Pyrotechnics for an 18 to 20-minute fireworks show that will include a finale.  The company has an impressive resume including the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular, and 31 years of producing Cincinnati’s Riverfest.” If a thunderstorm is in the area at the scheduled time for the fireworks, the fireworks show that draws thousands to the Paducah Riverfront each year will be delayed until the weather clears.

The fireworks display will be choreographed to music for the first time. The music will be a mix of patriotic, classical, and modern pieces. Speakers will be along the riverfront near Wilson Stage.

The American Queen is scheduled to depart the Port of Paducah by around 5 pm on Sunday, the 5th.

There are a lot of activities going on in Downtown Paducah Saturday evening.  For the complete rundown, click on the link below.
