The man accused of helping James Nathaniel Watts in the robbery of Cairo's First National Bank almost three years ago was in court Tuesday.

WSIL-TV reports that Otha Watkins III appeared in the Federal Courthouse in Benton following his indictment on March 13. He faces four charges from May 2014; aiding Watts in the robbery attempt that led to the deaths of two women, lying to the FBI, having a handgun as a convicted felon, and conspiring with Watts to rob a McDonald's restaurant in Charleston, Missouri.

Watkins entered a not guilty plea for every charge and waived his right to a detention hearing. Watkins' trial is set for May 30, and he is the step-brother of Watts.

On March 16, Watts pleaded guilty to attempted armed bank robbery resulting in death, and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm. In exchange, the prosecutor removed the death penalty as an option when Watts is sentenced on May 25.

Anita Grace of Olive Branch, Illinois, and Nita Smith of Wickliffe died from stab injuries they received during the robbery attempt.
