CAVE-IN-ROCK, IL - State officials say fire heavily damaged the kitchen of a prison work camp in southern Illinois.
Fire crews were called to the Hardin County Work Camp at 8 pm Wednesday.
The facility in Cave in Rock holds about 240 inmates. They were moved from their living quarters to a nearby gymnasium and returned when fire crews left the scene about 11:30 pm.
No one was injured. The cause of the fire is under investigation and an estimate the amount of damage was not given.
Normal operations resumed Thursday at the camp. Meals will be prepared at Shawnee Correctional Center until the kitchen is repaired.
