Average gasoline prices in Kentucky have risen almost six cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.59 a gallon, according to GasBuddy.com.

This compares with the national average that has increased five cents per gallon in the last week to $2.71 a gallon.

Paducah gas prices this week range from $2.42 to 2.69 per gallon. In Mayfield gas can be found for 2.45, and in Murray for 2.49. Gas in Metropolis, IL starts at 2.54, while Cape Girardeau, MO holds its usual bargain position at 2.39 per gallon.

Including the change in gas prices in Kentucky during the past week, prices yesterday were $1.12 per gallon lower than the same day one year ago and are 16 cents per gallon higher than a month ago. The national average has increased 27 cents per gallon during the last month, but is still 94 cents per gallon lower than a year ago.

"The rise we've seen in the national average over the month is showing signs of fading," said GasBuddy analyst Patrick DeHaan. "Crude oil prices have fallen from their 2015 highs and currently stand some $2 lower at $59 a barrel. While higher demand is expected for this Memorial Day weekend, crude oil inventories remain plentiful and stand some 86 million barrels higher than a year ago."

Monthly comparisons show all fifty states seeing higher prices, with the largest jumps taking place in Ohio, Michigan and California.  Meanwhile, all fifty states still stand lower today than a year ago.
