Overall, average retail gasoline prices in Kentucky have fallen 6 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $1.85 a gallon Sunday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 2,623 gas outlets in Kentucky. This compares with the national average that has fallen almost 3 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.04.
In Paducah, prices are ranging from $1.73 to $1.99 a gallon. Prices in Metropolis are also in the $1.80s. In Paris, TN, prices are averaging around $1.75.
In Clarksville, TN prices have already settled in at 1.67 and up. And oddly enough, a bit of a gas war broke out in southern Illinois in spite of higher gas taxes. Over the weekend, prices were in the 1.66 range in Marion, Herrin, Benton and West Frankfort.
Including the change in Kentucky during the past week, prices Sunday were 87 cents per gallon lower than the same day one year ago. The national average has decreased 14 cents per gallon during the last month and stands 73 cents per gallon lower than this day one year ago.
"We're focused on the upcoming OPEC meeting this weekend, and the potential implications from any major change in oil production," said Patrick DeHaan, GasBuddy senior petroleum analyst. "There are expectations that OPEC will continue to kick the can down the road and not change production levels. If there are surprises either way, it could definitely be felt at the pump and into 2016."
