Hope's Closet Store Expanding in Metropolis

Some southern Illinois families will benefit from the ongoing renovations at Hope Unlimited Family Care Center’s Metropolis location.  

Crews from Joshua Humphrey Construction, LLC of West Paducah are adding 563 square feet to the existing community store, Hope’s Closet, located at 305 Lincoln Street. The new floor plan consists of wider aisles, a furniture department, and a secure donation drop-off area. 

Generous community members donate clothes, housewares, and furniture to the store to be sold for less. Hope Unlimited clients are also able to shop with "Hope Dollars" they earn by participating in the free and confidential programs offered. All store proceeds go back into the non-profit ministry, allowing the center to reach more families.

“This improvement will not only provide more store space, but also allows us to better serve our day-to-day clients with walk-in pregnancy testing, parenting, Authenic Manhood, and life skill classes, as well as our job training program,” says Executive Director Nicole Farley.

The renovation creates a new space for client’s material needs, like diapers and hygiene items, as well as a new office, conference room, and executive storage. The center allows the community to use its conference room, when available, at no cost.

Farley says southern Illinois families deserve a comfortable and safe place to find support. “Because of donors who really believe in what Hope Unlimited Family Care Center has to offer our communities, we were able to move forward with this renovation, much sooner than originally planned.”

Once the expansion is complete, the organization's Board of Directors will look into opening the Metropolis location four days a week instead of its current three. Joshua Humphrey Construction expects renovations to be finished late February.
