IEMA Seeks Volunteers for Radiation Emergencies
By AP
SPRINGFIELD, IL - The Illinois Emergency Management Agency is looking for a few good volunteers - in case of a radiation accident near one of the state's six nuclear power plants.

The agency says it will create a pool of volunteers trained to help the state if it has to respond to a large-scale radiological accident.

Volunteers would assist with administrative, communications and logistical duties as well as monitoring people who might be contaminated by radiation.

IEMA Director Jonathon Monken says the state has a top-notch program already, but volunteers would enhance the agency's ability to respond to a potential accident.

A pilot project will focus on developing a base of about 40 volunteers near the Dresden Nuclear power Station in Grundy County. It will eventually expand to other plants.
