IL Braces for Rush on Concealed Carry Permits
SPRINGFIELD, IL - The state's new law that allows people to carry concealed weapons in Illinois has sparked an industry and by all indications business is going to be brisk.
The (Springfield) State Journal-Register reports that in recent weeks the Illinois State Police have approved almost 1,000 concealed-carry instructors to provide the mandated 16 hours of training.
Illinois has about 1.6 million residents with valid Firearms Owner's Identification Cards that are needed to qualify for a concealed carry permit. State police have said they expect nearly 400,000 people to apply for the concealed carry permits in the first year alone.
In Sangamon County, one newly minted instructor says he already has 200 people on his waiting list.
