IL, KY Politicians Condemn Attacks in Libya
By WestKyStar Staff
WASHINGTON DC - Illinois US Congressman John Shimkus on Wednesday issued the following statement in regard to the attacks on the American embassy in Cairo and the attack in Benghazi that killed Ambassador Chris Stevens.

"These attacks should be condemned as unjustified and intolerable in true democracies. Attacks on American citizens and our interests abroad demonstrate both the lack of leadership and strength we now show in the Middle East and lack of cooperation from the governmnents of Egypt and Libya. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family, friends, and coworkers of Ambassador Stevens and the three Americans killed in Libya. They represented the freedom of America in a very turbulent region of the world."

From Kentucky, US Senator Rand Paul stated, "I am heartbroken and outraged by the murder of four US citizens, including Ambassador Chris Stevens, during the attack on the US Consulate in Benghazi. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who lost loved ones in this tragedy. The perpetrators of this senseless attack must be brought to justice. I therefore demand that until the Libyan police hand over suspects to US officials, any US foreign aid to the government of Libya be contingent on their full support in this matter."

Also, Kentucky US Senator Mitch McConnell said, "We learned yesterday, and are receiving reports this morning, of the attacks against the United States Embassy in Cairo and the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya. "In Benghazi our Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans were killed in service to our nation. Our thoughts and sympathy today are with the families of these brave Americans. These attacks remind us of the sacrifices made on a daily basis by foreign service officers, diplomatic security personnel, and our Marine Security Guards. I join my colleagues in strongly condemning the murder of these innocent Americans. And I support employing every available tool at our disposal to ensure the safety of Americans overseas and to hunt down those responsible for these attacks..."
