CARBONDALE, IL - Authorities say two brothers from Kentucky drowned during a weekend visit to southern Illinois.
Jackson County investigators say 14-year-old Lewis Monson and 12-year-old Alick Monson were visiting friends in Carbondale when they were found unresponsive Saturday night in a swimming pool. The Hopkinsville brothers were later declared dead at a hospital.
The Jackson County Sheriff's Department says the case is being investigated as an accidental drowning. Relatives say the boys were brought to Carbondale by their older brother and had plans to return to Kentucky on Sunday.
