Beginning Monday, all traffic on I-57 from just south of the Interstate 24 interchange (mile point 44) to just north of the Illinois 146 interchange (mile point 30) will be shifted to the northbound lanes. Traffic will be in a head-to-head configuration with one lane for each direction of travel.
Ramps within this section will be affected as follows: Access to the Lick Creek interchange will be closed to southbound traffic; the northbound ramps will remain open. Trail of Tears Rest Area will be closed to all traffic. The Goreville and Illinois 146 interchange will remain open for all directions of travel.
This traffic configuration will be in place until November 15 to facilitate construction of new concrete pavement in the southbound lanes. Motorists should use extreme caution through this work zone and be aware of speed reductions and traffic control devices.
