METROPOLIS, IL - A man who was being tried in a 2010 southern Illinois shooting death abruptly pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 21 years in prison.
WSIL-TV reports that 21-year-old Jalmar Hill of Cairo pleaded guilty Thursday to first-degree murder moments after prosecutors finished presenting their case to jurors in Massac County.
Hill's brother, 20-year-old Demetrius Hill, pleaded guilty in June to first-degree murder just before jurors were to begin hearing the case and was sentenced to 21 years in prison.
Another defendant already is serving a 40-year sentence.
They were all accused in the November 2010 death of 22-year-old Brad Sims. Authorities say Sims was gunned down during a break-in and robbery of his rural Brookport home.
