Mail Delivery Returns to Tiny Southern IL Town
By AP
ORIENT, IL - Residents of a small southern Illinois town once again have mail service months after its post office was shut down.

WSIL-TV reports the Franklin County community of about 360 residents will have a "cluster box" installed near city hall.

Orient's post office closed in May after built-up animal waste caused the roof to decay and ceiling tiles to fall. Since then, residents have had to make a roughly 10-mile roundtrip to West Frankfort to collect their mail.

Mayor Pete Witkewiz says the solution isn't ideal, because many people had hoped to get home delivery. But he says it's better than having residents drive out of town.

Orient residents will have keys to the box, but won't be able to send packages or buy stamps in town.
