Authorities say 21-year-old Koby Humerickhouse shot John Ferketich in the back of the neck with a shotgun shortly after 6 a.m. Friday in his home near West Frankfort.
Prosecutors in Franklin County also charged Humerickhouse with aggravated battery.
Authorities haven't revealed Ferketich's medical status as of Tuesday.
