A man who was being sought in southern Illinois on domestic battery and other charges has been arrested.

The Massac County Sheriff's Office says deputies went to an address in the 5200 block of Marion Road on Wednesday to look for 39-year-old Jeremy J. Stevens, who was wanted on several warrants.

When deputies arrived, Stevens reportedly fled on foot into a wooded area. Stevens attempted to punch a deputy as he was being apprehended. A deputy used a taser on Stevens and subdued him. Deputies said a stolen firearm was also found nearby.

Stevens was taken to a local hospital for treatment. He's charged with possession of meth, aggravated battery, possession of a weapon by a felon, domestic battery and unlawful restraint.
