A Massac County man was sentenced Monday to 17 years in prison for the offense of Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault of a Child.
Twenty-eight-year-old David I. Rogers, pleaded guilty to the offense in the middle of his jury trial in August, and has been in the Massac County Detention Center awaiting sentencing. Judge Joseph Leberman presided over the trial and sentencing.
Massac County State’s Attorney Patrick Windhorst represented the People during the trial and sentencing. Rogers was represented by Mark Hunter. The case was investigated by the Massac County Sheriff’s Department.
“I want to commend the victim for her strength and courage coming forward and testifying during the trial,” Windhorst said. “I also want to thank Chad Kaylor and the sheriff’s department for their quality investigation.”
Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault of a Child is a Class X felony and carried a possible penalty of 6 to 60 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Under Illinois’ Truth-In-Sentencing Law, Rogers will be required to serve 85% of his sentence. He will also be required to register as a sex offender upon his release from custody.
