The Metropolis Fire Department is once again able to respond to medical emergency calls.
The department had been unable to respond to EMS calls since June 30, after temporarily suspending its first responder service due to regulations related to minimum staffing requirements.
Metropolis Professional Firefighters Secretary-Treasurer Chad Beaumont says that effective Oct. 18, the department is once again be able to respond to medical emergencies.
"As long as we've got adequate staffing of two or more personnel on duty, we'll be responding to medical emergencies within the city limits." He said.
