Metropolis Man Charged with Assaulting Mom

A man was arrested Friday for assault after a disturbance at a Metropolis home.

According to Metropolis Police, someone requested an ambulance during a call for a domestic disturbance at a home on 8th Street. Police arrived and found a woman with a head injury. She was identified as the mother of the suspect, 26-year-old Justin Meeks. Police said they also determined that Meeks threw a television and damaged it, and he smashed the woman's telephone with a hammer. 

When officers tried to arrest Meeks, he reportedly began fighting with them, so a Taser was used to take him into custody. 

Meeks was charged with domestic battery, criminal damage to property, and resisting arrest. He was taken to the Massac County Detention Center.
