A police investigation has led to the arrest of a Metropolis man on forgery and theft charges.

On Friday, Metropolis Detectives were investigating a forgery case in which they say several checks were being cashed on a closed account. One of the victims, Citgo called to report that the suspect, 38-year-old Eric Shade, of Metropolis returned and was in the store. Detectives responded and arrested Shade.

Police said Shade wrote 10 checks to Citgo, Walgreens, Sav-A-Lot and Big Johns, and that they also found a sandwich in his pocket that he did not pay for.

Shade was charged with forgery, retail theft and possession of stolen property. He was taken to the Massac County Detention Center.
