Metropolis Proposes New Zoning Ordinance
By WestKyStar Staff
METROPOLIS, IL - The City of Metropolis Zoning Commission has scheduled two public hearings on Thursday, Dec. 20 and Friday, Dec. 21 to discuss a proposed zoning ordinance and zoning map.
The goal of the ordinance is to encourage development on appropriate sites to maximize social and economic benefits, while accomodating everyone's needs. It will also protect the character and stability of property, and provide a way to eliminate use of property that does not conform.
Some critics have noted that the ordinance puts restrictions on property owners within 1-1/2 miles of the city limits, which limits the rights of those land owners in the county.
The ordinance and map can be seen at http://www.cityofmetropolis.com/
Both meetings will be held at the Metropolis Community Center, 900 W. 10th Street.
The Dec. 20 meeting is at 7:00pm, and the Dec. 21 meeting begins at 10:00 am. Anyone can comment at the meeting.
For those unable to attend, written comments can be mailed before 4:00 pm on Friday, Dec. 21 to the City Clerk's Office, 106 W. 5th Street, Metropolis, IL 62960. Comments can also be emailed to the City Clerk at firstname.lastname@example.org .
