Mississippi River IL/MO Bridge Down to One Lane
By WestKyStar Staff
CAIRO, IL - The Illinois Department of Transportation alerts motorists traveling in the Cairo area that the US 60/62 bridge over the Mississippi River between Illinois and Missouri is now scheduled to remain open each day, but traffic will be restricted to one lane during daylight hours on Thursday and Friday.
There could be delays of several minutes at either end of the bridge, as traffic is allowed to progress from the other side.
Affected drivers may detour on Highway 51 through Cairo to Highway 3 and the I-57 interchange, then take I-57 south to Missouri.
Earlier this week, the bridge was closed during the day. The closure was needed for crews to perform a required safety inspection of the structure.
