On Monday, Kentucky State Police say troopers noticed a vehicle traveling down I-24 in Livingston County at a high rate of speed.
They attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver reportedly sped up and attempted to get away from officers while swerving through traffic. Troopers chased the vehicle through Lyon County where they reportedly noticed a hand gun being tossed from the window.
Other troopers and deputies joined in the pursuit through Livingston County, Marshall County, and McCracken County. Near the 11-mile marker, McCracken County deputies were able to deploy a tire deflation device to slow the vehicle, however the chase continued, with the driver allegedly swerving at troopers and striking a cruiser during one attempt to stop him.
A short time later they were able to perform a pit maneuver and stop the vehicle near the 9-mile marker. After a short struggle, 23-year-old Michael E. Green of Mounds, Illinois, was arrested.
Green is being charged with possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, DUI, two counts of attempted murder of a police officer, speeding 26 miles per hour or more above the speed limit, three counts of wanton endangerment, possession of marijuana, four counts of fleeing or evading, reckless driving, failure to use proper signals, and resisting arrest. He was lodged in the McCracken County Jail.
