Officer Injured, Suspect Shot in Marion Pursuit
By West Kentucky Star Staff
MARION, IL - A suspect and a police officer were injured Friday in a pursuit and officer-involved shooting in southern Illinois.

According to a Monday press release from the Marion Police Department, officers attempted to pull over a vehicle on Interstate 57 Friday for reckless driving and suspected DUI. Police say the driver refused to stop and tried to elude officers, swerving toward other vehicles, driving on and off Marion city streets, and in the wrong direction on some streets.

Police say the driver stopped at a Huck's store, but as officers approached, he took off again, striking a squad car and one of the officers. The officer fired his weapon and hit the suspect at least once, but the driver continued to flee until the vehicle became disabled a few miles away.

The driver, identified as 28-year-old Ethan Adams of Sikeston, Missouri, was arrested and taken to Heartland Regional Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. He was later flown to a regional trauma center for further treatment. The police officer was also treated for his injuries, and both men are expected to recover.

Adams was charged with aggravated battery of a police officer, aggravated fleeing or evading police, and multiple other traffic charges.

Illinois State Police are conducting the official investigation into the officer-involved shooting.
