Police are warning the public about a recently reported scam involving a bogus check.

According to the Massac County Sheriff's Office, people have been receiving letters in the mail along with a check. The letter informs the person that they have been accepted into the Quality Control program at Walmart. A check activation is required using a supplied user ID and password. Once the check is activated, the person is to deposit the check into their bank account to begin shopping and participating in the program.

Police are advising that this is a scam. Once the victim deposits the check into their account, all of their money is stolen.

Anyone who receives a notice like this in the mail is being advised to disregard it and contact police.
