Monday was one for the record books across the area, with all time highs -- and lows -- for the day.
Record high temperatures were tied on Monday in Paducah, Evansville, and Cape Girardeau, with 87, 86, and 87 respectively, according to the National Weather Service in Paducah. This was some 15 to 20 degrees above normal for this time of year.
The record temperatures didn't stop there. You may have noticed how warm it was when you went to bed Sunday night.
Record warm low temperatures were also established on Monday at Paducah (67), Evansville (66), and Cape Girardeau (68). These readings are just a couple degrees cooler than normal afternoon highs, which are around 70 degrees. A record warm low was also set in Paducah on Sunday morning.
The unusual warmth is expected to remain across the area until at least Wednesday with highs in the mid to upper 80s and overnight lows in the mid to upper 60s. A rainy cold front is expected to move through midweek, however, leaving highs in the 60s and lows in the 40s.
Oddly, today also has the historic distinction of being the earliest date of the fall that Paducah has ever seen snow. On October 18th and 19th in 1989, Paducah saw a trace of snow on both days.
